Privacy Policy

MushBerrySpot is available as an Android application and as an installable web application (PWA), including on iPhone. It lets users save, view, and share mushroom and berry spots, use a nature guide, check weather-based forest estimates, and navigate to selected outdoor places. This Privacy Policy also covers the public MushBerrySpot website.

For privacy requests, data deletion, or support, contact us at mushberryspot.app@outlook.com. In this document, "we", "us", and "our" mean the developer of MushBerrySpot.

1. Scope

This policy applies to the MushBerrySpot Android app, the browser and installed PWA version, and the public MushBerrySpot website. It does not replace the privacy policies of third-party services opened from MushBerrySpot, such as Google Maps, Google Play, Instagram, Facebook, or partner websites.

By using MushBerrySpot, you understand that some app features require account data, location data, photos, or public spot data. If you do not want this data to be processed, you can avoid those features or request account deletion.

2. Information We Collect

Account data. When you create or use an account, we may process your email address, Firebase user ID, display name, profile avatar, Google account profile information if you sign in with Google, login provider, account creation date, and basic account status.

User profile data. You may choose a public display name and avatar. This information can be shown near spots or other public content you create.

Spot data. When you add or edit a mushroom or berry spot, we may process coordinates, category, selected species, description or notes, creation and update dates, visibility status, author ID, author display information, attached photos, and moderation-related fields.

Public content. If a spot is public, other signed-in users may see the spot location, category, species, photos, date, and public author profile. Do not add a public spot if you do not want other users to see that place.

Photos and camera data. You may choose images with the Android Photo Picker, a browser photo picker, or the device camera. We only process photos you select or create for MushBerrySpot. We do not scan your full photo library.

Location data. With your permission, Android or the browser may provide your current location to center the map, help save a spot, open navigation, or check a forest-condition estimate. We do not collect continuous location history and we do not access your location in the background.

Forecast request data. When you check forest conditions, rounded coordinates are sent to our first-party forecast gateway at api.spanobro.com. The gateway runs on Cloudflare, retrieves weather data from Visual Crossing, caches the response, and returns an estimate based on recent weather and season. The estimate is informational only and does not guarantee mushroom availability.

Favorites, reports, and moderation data. We may store your saved favorites, reports about incorrect or inappropriate spots, report reasons, related spot IDs, reporter ID, moderation status, and administrative decisions needed to keep the map useful.

Safety consent data. We may store whether you accepted the mushroom and berry safety notice, the consent version, language, and acceptance time.

Purchase data. Google Play processes the Android remove-ads purchase. If a web remove-ads product is offered, the named web payment processor processes that transaction. MushBerrySpot may receive product, payment-state, and entitlement metadata needed to unlock or restore the purchase, but not full card details.

Advertising and consent data. Android uses Google AdMob and Google's User Messaging Platform. The PWA does not currently show web ads; if web advertising is enabled, the policy and consent interface will identify the provider (expected to be Google AdSense with a certified consent platform where required). Advertising services may process identifiers, approximate location, app or site activity, ad interactions, diagnostics, and consent choices under their own policies.

Technical, device, and browser data. Firebase, Google services, Cloudflare, Visual Crossing, the operating system, and the browser may process device or browser type, operating system and app version, IP address, network status, diagnostics, logs, and similar data needed for security, delivery, maps, weather, advertising, and reliability.

Support communications. If you email us, we process the email address, message content, attachments, and any information needed to respond.

4. Legal Bases for Processing

Where the GDPR or similar law applies, we rely on the following legal bases: performance of a contract to provide the app features you request; your consent for permissions, personalized advertising where required, and optional choices; legitimate interests in security, moderation, support, fraud prevention, and improving the service; and legal obligations for records that must be kept.

5. Device and Browser Permissions

Location. Used only when you choose map centering, spot saving, navigation, or forecast features. You can deny or revoke it in Android, iPhone, or browser settings; location-based features may then stop working.

Camera. Used only when you choose to take a photo for a spot or profile-related feature.

Photos and media. Android and the browser receive access only to images you select through the system picker.

Internet and network state. Required for sign-in, database synchronization, maps, weather requests, ads, purchases, and support links.

6. Sharing and Public Visibility

We do not sell personal data. We do not share your personal data with third parties for their own direct marketing unless you consent or the relevant third-party advertising service acts under its own policy after you make a consent choice.

Public spots are intentionally visible to other users. This may include coordinates, photos, species, date, category, and public author information. You are responsible for deciding whether a place should be shared publicly.

We may disclose information if required by law, to protect our rights, to investigate abuse, to enforce rules, or during a transfer of the service to another operator, provided that privacy commitments continue to apply where legally required.

7. Third-Party Services

MushBerrySpot uses third-party providers to operate the app. These providers may process data as processors, independent controllers, or platform services depending on the feature.

8. Advertising

The Android version may display ads through Google AdMob. The PWA does not currently display web ads. If web ads are activated, they will be introduced together with the required notice and consent controls. Depending on region and consent choices, ads may be personalized or non-personalized. A remove-ads entitlement applies only to the platform or account scope shown at purchase unless MushBerrySpot explicitly states that it works across platforms.

9. Payments

Android payments are handled by Google Play. If web checkout is offered, it will be handled by the payment processor identified before purchase. We do not receive or store full payment card details. The provider may send purchase metadata needed to unlock or restore the product, and its own payment, refund, and privacy terms apply.

10. International Transfers

Our providers may store or process data in different countries. For example, Google and Firebase services use global infrastructure. Where required, providers use legal transfer mechanisms such as standard contractual clauses or equivalent safeguards.

11. Data Storage, Security, and Backups

Account and shared content are stored in Firebase. Android and the PWA also use local device or browser storage. The PWA service worker caches application files so it can start reliably; browser storage may retain sign-in state, recent public spots for up to 30 days, and forecast responses for about 2 hours. Map tiles are not intentionally cached by MushBerrySpot. Clearing website data or removing the installed PWA clears local browser copies but does not delete the Firebase account.

Android backup or provider-managed backups may retain limited data for a period after deletion, depending on platform and service settings. Backups are used for recovery and service continuity, not routine viewing.

12. Retention and Deletion

We keep account data while your account is active. We keep spot, photo, favorite, report, safety consent, and purchase state data as long as needed to provide the app, moderate content, restore purchases, comply with obligations, or resolve disputes.

You can request deletion of your account and related personal data at mushberryspot.app@outlook.com. Please include the email address connected to your MushBerrySpot account. We may need to verify the request before deleting data.

Some public content may need manual review before removal. Some limited records may be retained where required for security, fraud prevention, accounting, legal compliance, or legitimate dispute resolution.

13. Your Rights and Choices

Depending on your country, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict, object to processing, withdraw consent, request portability, or complain to a data protection authority. To exercise these rights, contact us at mushberryspot.app@outlook.com.

You can also manage choices on your device: revoke permissions in Android, iPhone, or browser settings; manage advertising choices where available; clear browser website data; remove photos before publishing; avoid public sharing; or sign out.

14. Children

MushBerrySpot is not directed to children under 13 and is intended for users who can safely and responsibly use outdoor information. If we learn that we collected personal data from a child without appropriate consent, we will take steps to delete it.

15. Outdoor Safety Notice

MushBerrySpot does not guarantee that mushrooms, berries, places, forecasts, or guide information are accurate or safe. The app is informational and community-based. Never eat mushrooms or berries unless you are fully certain of identification and safety. When in doubt, leave the find in nature and consult a qualified local expert.

16. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Updates will be posted on this page with a new "Last updated" date. If a change is important, we may also notify users in the app or by other reasonable means.
